What is integrative & functional medicine?

Many patients visit us to find a new approach to their existing health concerns or to try and find the root cause of symptoms that may be occurring.

We believe personalized medicine includes not only standard medical treatments but also includes other evidence-based natural therapies – interventions such as dietary changes, lifestyle modification, hormone balancing, metabolism support, supplements, vitamins, herbal medicine and other health supporting interventions.  Most of our patients don’t want to be just free from illness; they want to reach optimal health and performance levels.

To create an individualized care plan for you, we do not rely on guessing. We utilize the latest in advanced testing that you won’t find in your typical doctor’s office. This type of functional medicine testing goes beyond conventional lab testing to help identify root causes of symptoms and is also used to prevent illness and disease to reach optimal health. Many patients find it empowering to know how their body is working and what they need to focus on to best improve and optimize their health.

What are the available types of testing?

Examples of popular functional medicine testing include, but are not limited to, the following:

knife and fork

Food Intolerance Testing

Many people find a benefit to using food as medicine. Our specialized testing can determine which foods work best for your body to optimize health and wellness.

Digestive process

Comprehensive Digestive Analysis

This test offers an in-depth look at overall gut health-healthy and unhealthy bacteria levels, yeast growth, digestive markers, makers of “leaky gut,” markers of inflammation and markers of your immune system in your gut. We know the gut is a root cause of many illnesses and optimizing digestion is a core part of being in your best health.

Stress Index/Adrenal Function Test

Determine how stress is affecting your body and assess cortisol, the primary stress hormone, during different times of the day.

Micronutrient Testing

To determine your nutrition status and how you utilize nutrients in your body. Advanced testing offers a longer-term snapshot of your body’s nutrient status, and it can identify deficiencies that need to be corrected for optimal health.

Complete Female and Male Hormone Testing

To analyze your hormone profile and ensure that you have the right balance. This goes beyond blood work and can also be performed through salivary or urine metabolite testing.

Complete Thyroid Panels

To determine if your thyroid is working at optimal levels, not just “normal” levels. Our standard thyroid panels include TSH, free T3, free T4, reverse T3, and antibodies.

Organic Acid Testing

This test offers a comprehensive metabolic snapshot of overall health with over 70 markers. It provides an accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria, vitamin and mineral levels, oxidative stress, neurotransmitter levels, and include markers for oxalates, which are highly correlated with many chronic illnesses.

Methylation & Detoxification

To determine how your body is utilizing nutrients and performing important chemical processes for detoxification, neurotransmitter formation, and hormone processing.

Although these are the main tests we offer, it is not an exclusive list.  We also offer basic lab services. Many basic lab services can be ordered through your insurance. Specialized lab testing costs vary depending on the panel ordered. We accept FSA and HSA as payment for specialized testing and visits.
